Kurukshetra: Best Time to Visit, History & Travel Tips

Brahma Srovar Kurukshetra, Haryana :-

Brahma Sarovar has had a special historical place for many thousand of years Firstly, On the last day of the Mahabharata war, Duryodhana used this Sarovar to hide himself from Bhim Second significance is that by performing “Yagya” here lord Brahma created the entire universe. Thirdly, the solar eclipse fair held at Brahm Sarovar, where devotees from all over the country and abroad gather and take holy dip in Brahm Sarovar.

So whenever you come to Kurukshetra, you can start by taking a bath here and then you can go to visit other pilgrimages sites at Brahm Sarovar you will find many pilgrimage site. First of all, you will visit Sarveshwar Mahadev located in the middle of the lake.

Sarveshwar Mahadev:-

Sarveshwar Mahadev temple Bridge has been made in lake to visit Sarveshwar Mahadev. This lord Shiva Mahalinga was established by lord Brahma when he performed a yagya here. After visiting the Mahadev temple, we will visit the temple of Goddess “Katyani“.

Katyani:-

Katyani temple very good arrangements have been made for cleanliness at Brahm Sarovar. The temple of goddess “Katyani” is established just behind Sarveshwar Mahadev, temple. There is vad Pathshala inside temple, were students are given free education on “Shastras”. “Maha aarti” which is organized at Braham sarovar in the evening is performed by students of Ved Pathshala. After having darshan of Goddess Katyani.

You can go to the most attractive place of Braham Sarovar where the huge chariot of lord Krishna and Arjuna has been established. You can see Katyani temple just behind this huga chariot has been established. Lord Krishna can be seen preaching the Geeta to Arjuna. You can also see four big horses. While watching carefully one can see lord Hanuman’s idol on top of chariot. Lord Hanuman protected Arjuna’s chariot during War. Here, Braham Sarovar lake is very big and also the green fields. You will also find big sacred fig and banyan trees.

The next place is a Mother “Draupadi”.

Draupadi:-

Mother Draupadi’s well is not very far from the chariot of lord Krishna and Arjuna.

This is the well where mother “Draupadi” washed hairs We will go downstairs to have sight. In this well, mother “Draupadi” had washed her hari with the blood of “Dushassan” which she had vowed when she was torn apart in a crowded assembly.

In Kurukshetra, very year Geet Jayanti is celebrated which is mainly organized on Brahma Sarovar. You will see wall panels on the circumambulation route of the Braham Sarovar, which is very knowledgeable for devotees. On these wall panels, the events of the Mahabharata period have been depicted.

Now we will go to place 4km from here were “Bhishma Pitamah” gave up his life. Further 1 km is place where lord krishna have Geet Gyan to Arjuna Geet updesh sthal. Pilgrimage site in Kurukshetra are short distant. If you don’t have own vehicle, best option is autorickshaw.

Ticket fare is auto 200 RS per person if 7-8 people shearing an auto.

For 3 to 4 members of family they may charge in between 1000 RS to 1500 RS for 10 main place of Kurukshetra.

Bhishma Pitamaha’s Temple:-

Braham Kund to “Narkatari Tirth” is 3 KM from Sarovar parking facility is available. There are 2 main places One is Bhishma Pitamaha’s temple Second is sarovar where he lay on bed of arrows. After temple in U.P this is the only temple of Bhishma Pitamah. Around bed of arrows there is “Mother Ganga”, Lord “Krishna” and five “Pandavas”. You will get to see such an emotional scene in this temple of Bhishma Pitamah. The other temple is in Prayagraj.

The second main place of Narkatari Tirth is lake established since Mahabharat Yudh. When while laying on bed of arrows “Bhishma Pitamah” then Arjuna shot an arrow and brought water out of earth. On the pillars of this temple are written the teachings of Raj Dharma that Bhishma Pitamah had given Yudhishthira at the last moment.

Jyotisar Tirth:-

While going from Narkatari Tirth to Jyotisar there are 2 main temple one is Iskcon temple second is Krishna Arjuna temple which is under construction. Also, there is Kalpana chawla planetarium which remains closed on Monday.

When we enter premises, you will see tableaus of Mahabharata and also there is ancient Shiva temple.

The name of this holy land is Jyotisar, where Lord Krishna narrated the Gita to Arjuna. When Arjun felt whom should he kill as all are his relative. Then lord Krishna has gave message to Arjuna from this place, if you do not kill, even then everyone will be killed, so get up and prepare for the war. It is said that the war stared from this place. In 11th chapter lord says, Arjun the divine sight that I am giving you today the great sages have performed big rituals for me, have performed Yagya, have done yoga, I have not shown this from to them Arjun, which I am showing to you today”. It is said that at this place only the attachment of Arjuna gets completely dissolved War started from this place and finally ended at this place. Under this lord gave Gita message to Arjuna. While listening this tree also become immortal forever and only then this tree was named “Akshay Vatt”. Akshay means, the one who remains alive forever and remains immortal. Devotees come and pay obeisance to this tree, the tree is circumambulated from all sides and a mantra is chanted “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya”.

The second main place of Jyotisar is Krishna Arjun Rath. It was established in 1967 by the people of Kanchi Kam Kotti Pitha, whose president at some point was “Jagatguru Shankaraacharya” had a special attachment toward this place. When “Jagatguru Shankaraacharya” started moving out of the pain area, this pilgrimage was the first site marked.

Third main place in Jyotisar is “Viraat Roop” of lord krishna, it has been recently established. Lord KrishnaViraat Roop” which he showed to Arjuna while giving Gita Gyan. This is very beautiful and big idol. It weight around 40 tones. At evening there is laser show, timing is around 6:30 PM.

Devikoop Bhadrakali Mandir:-

This is the only Shaktipitha of Haryana where Goddess Sati’s Ankle fell. Tonsure ceremony of lord Krishna and Balram was also performed here. There is a very different practice in the Bhadrakali temple of donating horses to the goddess. This practice relates to time of Mahabharata of Dwapar Youg. Lord Shir Krishna brought Arjuna to this temple and here he asked for a boon for his victory. When Pandavas won the Mahabharat war, here lord Krishna with Arjuna presented horses and since then the rituals are followed till today.

At distance of 300 m from here is “Sthaneshwar temple”.

Sthaneshwar temple:-

This history of this temple is very ancient Pandavas worshipped lord Siva here during Mahabharata with lord Krishna. So the way lord Rama worshiped in Ramesdhwaram in Treta Yuga in the same way lord Shankara was worshiped by Pardavas in this temple. So in a way we can call it North india’s Rameshwaram.

The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is very big.

Sanhit Sarovar:-

Here “Pind Daan” is done. There are many ghats and temple around them which have rich history. This was Sanhit Sarovar.
