Here, Maurya and Kushan ruled, here Haridwar has always been a religious place It was not a trading and art hub like Mathura, nor an ancient strategic city like Varanasi. In fact, his samadhi is also in Haridwar and is known as Man Singh ki Chhatri. Many of the ghats in present day Haridwar were built and restored in the 18th century.

Ganga:-

Since we are with Ganga Ji lets have some fact as well from north to south Ganga is a considered to be the most sacred river in India. Interestingly if we see the oldest scriptures in Vedas, it was not always like this. Ine Vedas Saraswati and Indus are for more prominently mentioned. By the time Purans were written, the river Ganga was already the most important. At 2500km long, Ganga is India’s largest river and it is the 35 largest in the world. Started from the Gaumukh glacier in Uttarakhand and the meet the sea in the bangle Basin. I will tell you a very interesting story of the ganga river which solved the problem of rain and drought in North India. This was in 1838 when a huge drought it India. It is also called the great famine of Agra and it is believed that 800,000 people died. Millions of rupees were spent by the British East India company in relief work. After this it was realized that such a drought or such a natural calamity is also a financial calamity.
And then explain was made to build the Ganga River. But it was not that easy. The fast opposition come from the top management of East India Company And then from Haridwar.
Any proposal to Dam the straight Ganga River will certainly have opposition. And this is what happened, and many people opposed it. The Pandits of Haridwar raised their hands and said that we will not allow this at all. So at the time to keep them happy and to make the dam, a compromise proposal watch reached. Free flowing part of Ganga River moves through Haridwar, and the rest of the river is controlled through barrage. When the canal was built about 5000 village got water for irrigation, and now the number is much higher it also solved the problem of floods and droughts to a large extent.
