Where a temple of Lord ‘Bholenath’ is established. This temple is also situated on the banks of the river.
‘Murdeshwar Dham’ is one of those selected temples in India, which is surrounded by the Arabian Sea from the three sides. Apart from its religious importance, due to its natural beauty at present many international tourists visit ‘Murdeshwar Dham’ .

History:-
The ancient history of this temple is related to the conversation which ‘Ravana’ and Lord ‘Ganesha ‘ had when ‘Ravana’ was carrying ‘Shivalinga from ‘Kailasha’ to his ‘Lanka’ Due to the event of that time Lord “Bholenath” has been established here. Its history is related to the period of “Ramayana” “Ravana” who by doing penance of Lord “Shiva” asked Lord “Shiva” to come from “Kailasha” to his city “Lanka”. Lord “Shiva” gave him his “AtmaLinga” as a boon, but said that he would have to establish this ‘atmalinga’ in the “Lanka” it self. If he puts it down anywhere on the way, it will be established right there. So on the way, in a forest, “Ravana” feels the need to urinate. At the same time, Lord “Ganesha” comes here in the form of a shepherd. “Ravana” gives him this “Atmalinga” and tells him not to put it down. “Ganesh Ji” tells him that he’ll call “Ravana” three time. If he doesn’t return, then he’ll put down this “atmalinga” When “Ravana” goes out for urination and does’t come even after calling three times then “Ganesh Ji” puts “Atmalinga” down. When “Ravana” comes back, he becomes very angry on seeing him. Lord “Ganesha”, who was in the form of shepherd, he attacks him. A hole is formed on his head. After that “Ravana” tries to lift that ‘Atmalinga’ but was unable to do so. What happens is that when he lifts the cloth which is placed over the ‘Atmalinga’ with great force, that cloth breaks into five pieces and falls at five places in Karnataka. At present, those five pilgrimage places are ‘Gokarna’, ‘Sajeshwar’, ‘Dhareshwar’, ‘Gunuvanteshwar’ and ‘Murdeshwar Dham’. So, in this way this is the significance of estsblishment of Lord ‘Shiva’ in ‘Murdeshwar’.
